Chrome extension
The Winternitz extension is a full browser wallet: a toolbar popup or a docked side panel, a password-encrypted seed, a token list with Robinhood Stock Tokens, and a standard provider that dApps can connect to.
Install#
The extension is not on the Chrome Web Store yet, so it installs in developer mode. It works in Chrome 116+ and Chromium browsers such as Brave, Edge and Arc.
Download
Get the ZIP from the extension page or download it directly.
Unzip
Extract it to a folder you will keep.
Open chrome://extensions
Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and switch on Developer mode (top right).
Load unpacked
Click Load unpacked and choose the extracted folder. Pin Winternitz from the puzzle-piece menu.
To update, replace the folder with a newer version and press the reload icon on the Winternitz card in chrome://extensions. Your wallet is kept.
Create or import a wallet#
On first launch choose Create a new wallet or Import a seed (your 24-word recovery phrase or the 0x… hex seed), then set a password of at least 8 characters.
- The seed is stored on this device, encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a key derived from your password with PBKDF2-SHA256 (600,000 iterations).
- While unlocked, the decrypted seed is kept only in Chrome's in-memory session storage. It is cleared when you lock the wallet, when auto-lock kicks in (after 15 minutes without using the wallet by default), or when you close the browser. Requests from dApps don't count as activity, so a page can't keep the wallet unlocked.
- For a new wallet you'll be shown your 24-word recovery phrase once and asked to confirm you wrote it down. You can reveal it again later in Settings, with your password.
Popup or side panel#
Click the panel icon in the header to move the wallet into Chrome's side panel, where it stays open next to the page as you browse. To make this the default, turn on Open in side panel in the Display section of Settings. The toolbar icon will then open the side panel directly.
Tokens#
The Tokens tab lists ETH and the official Robinhood Stock Tokens for the selected network, with real brand logos:
| Network | Default tokens |
|---|---|
| Robinhood Chain Testnet | TSLA, AMZN, PLTR, NFLX, AMD |
| Robinhood Chain | WETH, USDG, TSLA, AMZN, AAPL, NVDA, MSFT |
Use Import token to add any other ERC-20 by contract address; its name, symbol and decimals are read from the chain. Click a token to send it.
Look-alike tokens
Anyone can deploy a token called "TSLA". The default lists only contain addresses that were verified, and imported tokens never get a brand logo, whatever symbol they claim.
Swap#
On Robinhood Chain mainnet, Swap trades ETH, WETH, USDG and Stock Tokens through Uniswap v4. Pick the tokens (grouped into Crypto and Stocks & RWA), enter an amount and review:
- Rate and route: the best of every direct pool and every two-hop route, quoted on-chain.
- Minimum received: the swap reverts below it. Choose 0.5%, 1% or 3% slippage.
- Network fee: expected and maximum, like a send.
The approvals and the swap are one operation, signed by one key. Nothing stays approved afterwards. The Swap guide has the details.
Stock Tokens
Robinhood Stock Tokens track a share's price but are not shares. They are not available to US persons and are restricted in some other countries.
Connecting to dApps#
The extension exposes a standard EIP-1193 provider and announces itself through EIP-6963 (rdns xyz.winternitz.wallet). If no other wallet is installed it also becomes window.ethereum.
- Connect. A site asks for your account; an approval window shows the site and what it will be able to do.
- Transactions. Every
eth_sendTransactionopens an approval window showing the amount, recipient, data, and which one-time key will sign. The dApp receives the transaction hash once it's confirmed. - Not supported:
personal_sign,eth_signTypedDataand other off-chain message signing. Each signature consumes a one-time key, so these requests are refused with error4200. - Manage connected sites under Connected sites in Settings.
